Bird feeders in the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve were made by third-graders from the Panayot Volov Secondary School in Shumen. In a special lesson on wintering birds, the children learned what care they should take and what is the appropriate food for the feathered inhabitants of the Park. The Directorate's experts presented the most common species, including tits, woodpeckers, sparrows, robins, jays and others, and introduced the children to the sounds they make so that they can recognize them.<\/p>\n

From recyclable and natural materials \u2013 pine cones, cardboard, twine, twigs, each child made different feeders. Some of them were placed in the Kyoskovete forest park, and the other part the children took home, where they will continue to place appropriate food and thus take care of the wintering birds.<\/p>\n

The third-graders have been working with them for three years now. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the declaration of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve, the children and their parents made and placed birdhouses, which still adorn the Kyoskovete Forest Park today. Last fall, at the students' idea, signs with interesting appeals to appreciate nature were placed in the Park's Forest School. The children and their class teacher Katerina Koleva thanked them for the lessons with a special certificate.<\/p>\n
