The Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve celebrated 44 years since the plateau was declared a protected area. The celebration was attended by Deputy Executive Director of the National Park Service, Eng. Anna Petrakieva, representatives of state and municipal institutions, nature parks, non-governmental organizations, the University of Shumen, schools and friends of the park. The children from the Pchelitsa Day Care Center opened the celebration with a dance and game with the audience.<\/p>\n

"During these years, much has been done for the tourist routes and for maintaining biodiversity. We can proudly say that the past 2023 was also extremely successful for us," noted the director, Eng. Krasimir Hristov. He pointed out that work has continued on the large-scale renovation of tourist infrastructure and the creation of a new one, numerous events for the public and educational initiatives are being organized. Eng. Hristov thanked everyone who helped implement the activities and protect the nature park. "I note with pain that the acts of vandalism continue. The dumping of waste does not stop, which requires all forest structures in the region to undertake numerous clean-up actions," said Eng. Hristov and called for the protection of the green wealth of Shumen.<\/p>\n

On the occasion of the birthday, the latest publication of the Directorate was presented - the booklet "Underground Wonders of the Shumen Plateau". It was created under a project approved by the Municipal Fund "Culture" of the Shumen Municipality, the main idea being to collect and summarize the information accumulated over the years about the caves and sinkholes with which the plateau abounds. The entire Park team is working on the publication, and the idea is from specialist Milen Marinov. The design and layout are by the company 3SM - Shumen.<\/p>\n

The publication is necessary for visitors to appreciate the uniqueness of inanimate nature. Without claiming to be a scientific work, the booklet summarizes publications and studies that the Park has. Materials found in the State Archives - Shumen, as well as publications in local and national periodicals, have been used.<\/p>\n
