ROCK CLIMBING ROUTES

On the territory of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve, there are two designated climbing sites for practicing rock climbing: at the Devil's Passage in the Kyoshkove area and on the rocky ridge above the Divdyadovo neighborhood.

Of greater importance is the climbing site "Divdyadovo". It is located near the Shumen district "Divdyadovo". It is a rock separated from the main plateau. Its height reaches 30-35 m. In the middle, at a height of about 25 m, a small and dangerous path passes on wet rocks. The exposure is southern and protected from the wind, which makes the site a preferred place for climbing during autumn, sunny winter and spring days. The rocks are not friable, and falling rocks are not a common occurrence. Currently, 24 climbing routes of varying degrees of difficulty have been created here.

The climbing site "Divdyadovo" can be reached via 2 routes.

One starts from the town of Shumen, climbs the Shumen Plateau and passes by the monument "The Founders of the Bulgarian State". A green-marked extreme tourist trail from the southwestern edge of the parking lot at the monument descends to the rocks.

The other way to get there is from the Divdyadovo district, past the Bohemi hotel. It continues along a not very steep path through the forest, marked in green. The time you have to walk is 10 minutes.

The climbing site was developed in the period 1988-1989 by the Alpine Club "Madarski Konnik", Shumen. 10 tours have been created. In September 2004, climbers from Shumen and Varna, with the support of the Park Directorate, made new routes and additionally secured some of the old ones. Thus, the climbing site became a great place for all beginners and advanced climbers, offering a variety of climbing, represented by smooth slabs, ceilings, overhangs, angles, etc.

In 2012, the Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve carried out refinement and repair of the existing rock climbing routes. Wedges were removed from additional branchings of the routes, thus taking measures to protect chasmophyte vegetation on the limestone rock slopes. The repair of the existing 24 climbing routes includes the replacement of wedges and other specialized elements. 2 information boards and 24 directional signs were installed.

The Directorate of the Nature Park reminds that:

1. Changing the rock relief, as well as the current tours, is not allowed.

2. Digging of grips and steps or placing artificial ones is prohibited.

3. It is not advisable to use hard metal brushes to clean the rocks.

4. In climbing ethics, it is accepted to remove dangerous and unstable rocks from the rocks, but not to uncompromisingly break up a rock mass.

5. Wearing helmets is recommended.

6. Do not litter.

We wish you a pleasant climbing!
