There have been no registered fires on the territory of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park this summer. Park employees inspected the places where fire lighting is permitted and did not find any destruction of the regulated fires. There are 11 shelters for recreation on the territory. The condition of the tourist infrastructure there – benches, tables and fires – is good, the inspection also showed. Last year, 8 of the shelters were repaired due to vandalism, but this year no destroyed facilities have been found. I would like to remind you that most of the picnic areas in the Nature Park have been “adopted” by leading companies and organizations from Shumen and their employees take care of their maintenance. Volunteers are also involved in the activities.
There are warning signs on the territory of the Park that it is prohibited to light fires in unregulated places. Usually, incidents occur when an open fire is handled improperly. An example of this is the fire in the "Bear" area in 2017, when about 3 acres of pine forest burned.
The Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park and the Northeastern State Enterprise are planning special lessons for children as part of the summer activities that the two institutions are organizing. The initiative is called "Summer without Fires" and will involve employees from forestry enterprises and firefighters from the Shumen Regional Fire Protection and Fire Protection Department.
