"Green Suns" lit up the Shumen plateau on Midsummer's Day

Dozens of Shumen residents took part in the "Green Suns" festival, organized by the Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park. The event was organized on the occasion of Midsummer Day and has been traditional for the Park since 2006. At exactly 5:29 a.m., people welcomed the sunrise on the Shumen plateau, braided a wreath of herbs and danced barefoot, sprinkled themselves with silent water for health. June 24 - Midsummer Day, is celebrated in folk traditions as a holiday of the Sun, herbs and water. All those present made a bouquet of herbs and flowers, since according to belief, medicinal plants have the greatest power on this day, and whoever welcomes the sunrise will be healthy throughout the year. The holiday continued with folk dances and a quiz. The Directorate of the Park provided prizes and honey cakes, as tradition dictates. The Orthodox Church celebrates St. John the Baptist and during the holiday, the name-bearers were congratulated and received a modest souvenir from the organizers.
