DEAR FRIENDS,
February 5, 2019 marks 39 years since the Shumen Plateau Nature Park was declared a protected area.
The leading task of the people who have worked and are working in the park directorate over the past years has always been to achieve balanced management of the protected area, expressed in the skillful combination of the protection of its unique biodiversity with the opportunities for full use of natural resources.
The Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park expresses its gratitude to all its like-minded people and partners who have supported its efforts to preserve the beauty and primacy of nature in the Danube Plain region, because we believe that Nature is our common home - for people, plants, forests and animals!
On February 5, 1980, by a decree of the Committee for the Protection of the Natural Environment, 3,930 hectares of the Shumen Plateau were declared a National Park in order to preserve valuable plants, animals, the characteristic plateau landscape and places suitable for recreation and tourism. In 2003, the park was re-categorized as "natural".
