New lesson "Winter in the Forest" starts today

The lesson "Winter in the Forest" was conducted by forest educators from Shumen with students from the "Green Patrols" club at the "Panayot Volov" Secondary School. The children learned what happens to the trees in the forest in winter and how animals survive the cold months. The second-graders improved their knowledge of the habits of wild inhabitants and took on the role of forest animals. Experts from the "Shumen Plateau" Nature Reserve, the "Shumen Plateau" Forestry and Forestry Department and the "Shumen" Forestry Department introduced the children to the main tree species of the Shumen Plateau, their importance for air purification and protection from erosion. Through old photographs, they learned that the Shumen Plateau was devoid of forests and the current afforestation is the result of the long-term work of forest breeders. In a special game, the children had to recognize the trees that remain green in winter - fir and pine. The little ones had to find the differences between the two species and recognize them by their branches and cones. The forest educators tasked the children with making a forest-themed card that would carry the spirit of winter and the upcoming holidays. The children's hands created Christmas trees, pine trees, deer, and Christmas decorations.

The "Winter in the Forest" lessons will continue to be held in various schools in the coming weeks.
