A new forest for Shumen residents

Over 350 Shumen residents participated in the afforestation of the burned forest above the Divdyadovo district. During the summer, the fire burned down nearly 70 decares of pine plantations, and after several months of efforts, forest officials prepared the terrain for afforestation. Families with children, citizens and representatives of youth organizations and sports clubs participated in the action. Employees of the Shumen State Forestry Department coordinated the work, and specialists from the North-Eastern State Enterprise and the Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park, which includes part of the burned areas, also participated. The rocky terrain was cleared of residual branches and afforested with hairy oak, which is characteristic of the region. 20 thousand acorns were provided for an area of 40 decares. This deciduous species grows more slowly, but survives in the most adverse conditions. "We are also replacing the pine tree because of the proximity of the forest to the settlement. You saw for yourself - when a pine tree catches fire, it burns quickly. We use the available terraces on the hill," specified Eng. Krasimir Hristov from the Shumen State Forestry Commission.

Forestry officials will take care of the new forest for 5 years, the young saplings will be dug up three times a year until the plantings are strong. The forest near Shumen burned down in August last year, and the disaster was caused by a resident in the villa area of Divdyadovo.

We thank all the participants who put in the work in the campaign. Together we donated a new forest to Shumen!
