Fourth graders took care of the birds in the park

How to care for wintering birds was learned by fourth-graders from the Green Patrols club at Panayot Volov Secondary School in Shumen. In a special lesson, experts from the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve presented the most common bird species, including tits, woodpeckers, sparrows, robins, jays and others, that remain in Bulgaria during the winter. The feathered inhabitants of the Park need additional energy and the children committed to helping by making feeders.

The little ones learned that the most accessible food is sunflower seeds, which, however, must be raw and unsalted. It is not appropriate to give bread, especially whole grain. The feeders should be in neutral colors and shapes so that the birds are not afraid to land on them.

Therefore, from suitable recyclable and natural materials - cardboard, twine, twigs, each child made different feeders. Some of them were placed in the Kyoshkavete forest park, and the other part the children took home, where they will continue to place appropriate food and thus take care of the wintering birds.

The "Green Patrols" also learned about the sounds that different species of birds make and how they can recognize them by their specific song.

72 species of birds are found on the territory of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve. The lesson is dedicated to 42 years since the declaration of the protected area. The team of the Panayot Volov State University sent a special congratulatory address to the Directorate on the occasion of the holiday.
