Nearly 100 children from the Dimitar Blagoev Secondary School in Provadia participated in a lesson on Forest Pedagogy organized by experts from the Shumen Plateau State Forestry Commission, the Provadia State Forestry Commission and the Sofia Forestry Commission. It was dedicated to the Forest Week, April 4-10, which this year is under the motto "I
the forest!
All students from grades 1 to 4 had the opportunity to show their knowledge about the forests of the Northeast and the animals that inhabit them. During the classes, the children had to go through four training centers. In the first one, they learned how to navigate a map, what to carry in their backpacks during a hike, and how to pitch a tent if they were to spend the night in the forest. Forest teacher Assen Hristov showed them how to light a fire with glass if they forgot to bring matches for the campfire. However, he warned them that after a picnic, they should pick up all the garbage and glass bottles, because they can cause a fire in the forest and also pollute the habitats of many valuable species. In the second center, the young students recognized the tracks of forest inhabitants, talked about the habits of animals and which of them eats what. In the next center, the children understood why it is important to maintain balance in nature and what are the consequences of fires and other catastrophic events. In the fourth center, the children received the book "Tales from the Nest", which is part of the project "Lands and Forests of the Eagle". The young students built nests, fed the white-tailed eaglets and flew over Provadia. In the coming days, children from Shumen, Dobrich, Varna and Varbitsa will participate in the Forest Pedagogy lessons.
