Nearly 120 children from 5 schools in Shumen participated in an Eco-Festival dedicated to the European Mobility Week. The initiative was initiated by the Shumen Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Waters in partnership with forest educators from the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve and the North-Eastern State Enterprise.
The students took part in a competition called FUNRUN, they had to separate waste, imitate an animal, arrange a puzzle with tree species, throw a pine cone at a target and show speed and dexterity. Fourth graders from Panayot Volov Secondary School, Dr. Petar Beron Secondary School and tenth graders from Nancho Popovich Primary School, Ioan Exarch Bulgarian Secondary School and Sava Dobroplodni Secondary School took part. The judges of the competition assessed that all participants had excellent skills and knowledge about nature.
Experts from the environmental inspection demonstrated through chemical reactions how humans impact the environment and how waste is transformed into raw materials that we can use. The students were also given tasks that they had to solve experimentally.
In another special workshop, prepared by Plamena Nikolova from the Society 528 association, participants in the eco-festival made paper from waste products.
Everyone received medals for a successful finish and gifts provided by the Park Directorate and the Shumen Regional Inspectorate for Environment, Water and Fire Protection.
This year's Mobility Week is held under the motto "Better Connections" and events like this promote environmentally friendly activities.
