12 new fireplaces will be built at the recreation areas in the Shumen Plateau Nature Park. The renovation will be implemented this summer after the Park Directorate participated in the first edition of the social initiative "Fantastico to You". The project "We Build Fireplaces. We Protect the Forest" was approved among 260 submitted proposals. A 10-member jury headed by Prof. Petar Stoyanovich supported 19 projects from across the country. They were announced at a special ceremony in Sofia, which was attended by the Director of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park, Eng. Krasimir Hristov. He was congratulated by Teodora Bakardzhieva, Executive Director of the Bulgarian Donors Forum.
The project "We build fireplaces. We protect the forest" envisages the creation of 12 completely new fireplaces at 8 shelters, at two recreation areas and at two viewing points in the Nature Park. In some of the places, such facilities have not existed before. With the implementation, the risk of forest fires will be significantly reduced. The fireplaces will be more convenient and safer for tourists, as well as for conducting lessons with children and students related to the protection of forest areas from fire.
Maintenance will be carried out by the team of the Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park, which hopes that visitors will not destroy the new fires and will respect the rules for lighting fires in the protected area.
All main activities are expected to be completed within two months. The funding for the project "Building Hearths. Protecting the Forest" is 6,626 leva.
