How to protect forests from fires - this is what the children from the Green School at the UDK CPLR in Shumen learned today. The lesson was conducted by the Forestry Educators from the SIDP and the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve together with employees of the DGS-Shumen and RDG-Shumen. The lesson is part of the national campaign of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Executive Forestry Agency "Irresponsibility is the Biggest Spark".
The children understood what causes forest fires and what actions to take if they see a fire in the forest areas. Human negligence is the leading cause of fire - throwing away unextinguished cigarettes and waste, lighting fires in unregulated places, burning stubble. The children learned to recognize combustible and non-combustible waste, and also how to extinguish a fire. For this purpose, the Shumen Fire Department provided the children with the opportunity to try out technical means for extinguishing fires - backpack sprinklers and fire extinguishers. The Shumen Fire Department fire truck also aroused particular interest.
The forest educators also noted the benefits that humanity derives from fire, and the employees of the RDG-Shumen gave the children a game in which they could practice the new words and concepts they had learned and assemble their own fire truck.
The topic of protecting forests from fires is traditionally present in numerous activities that Shumen forest educators conduct during the summer.
