We celebrate Tourism Day with a hike

A hike to the rock monastery above the village of Khan Krum is organized by the Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve on Saturday, September 28. The initiative is on the occasion of World Tourism Day, which is celebrated on September 27.

The hike is scheduled for 10 a.m., and the starting point is the Summer Information Center of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve, which is located in the parking lot next to the Founders of the Bulgarian State monument. The hike lasts about 4 hours in total in both directions and with breaks. Park employees will introduce those present to the history of the rock monasteries on the Shumen Plateau. According to historical information, the rock crowns along the entire plateau are active monasteries from the Middle Ages. They were inhabited by hesychast monks.

Those wishing to follow the route, which is marked with white-green markings, must wear suitable hiking shoes. No prior registration is required, the hike is free.

Organizing such hikes for the residents and guests of the city is part of the activities that the Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park carries out regularly.
