Leading volcanologists and Antarctic explorers present "A Tale of Fire and Ice"

The Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve is among the organizers of the public lecture on the topic: "A Story of Fire and Ice: How Volcanoes and Ice Caps Show the Future of the Earth". The event will be held on October 11, 2024 at 6:30 PM at the Shumen Youth Center. The lecturers will be Prof. Salvatore Caffo, Chief Volcanologist of the Etna Park Nature Reserve (Italy) and Giovanni Laudani - Director of the reserve. From the Bulgarian side, Fleet Admiral Prof. Boyan Mednikarov - Captain of the Bulgarian military research ship "St. St. Cyril and Methodius", who served the Bulgarian missions in Antarctica, as well as the most famous Bulgarian polar explorer - Prof. Hristo Pimpirev. The experience gained and the challenges in conquering the parts of the planet that can give us valuable information about the impact of climate change and its impact on life on Earth, ecology and tourism in a global and local aspect will be presented.

The focus of the event will be topics related to the accumulated knowledge and experience in extreme zones with harsh conditions for residence and survival, where climate change has tangible manifestations that are important for the development of science and the forecast for the future of our planet. The challenges facing tourism and ways to adapt the tourism sector to the new conditions will also be discussed, which is an important part of the economic profile and potential for the development of Shumen and the region. The meeting is open to all citizens, representatives of the academic community, local government, municipal tourism enterprises, representatives of the tourism business, students and pupils, journalists, etc.

The event is organized jointly with the Shumen Plateau Nature Park, the Regional History Museum - Shumen, the Stiliyan Chilingirov Regional Library, the United for Shumen association, the Podobiri Foundation, the Youth Center, Shumen University, Shumen Television, as well as by Dr. Vladimir Yolov, the chairman of the municipal commission "European Projects, International Cooperation and Interaction with Non-Governmental Organizations".
