“Let’s save and protect water!” – this is what students from the “Panayot Volov” Secondary School called for, who worked on a STEM project on the topic “How will we ensure the water supply of our city if we cannot use the Ticha Dam?” The young researchers from the fourth, fifth and seventh grades presented the results of their research at the Information Center of the Shumen Plateau Regional Educational and Cultural Center. After learning about the history of Shumen’s water supply, studying the natural water sources and alternative options for providing drinking water for the city, the children came to the conclusion that the only chance is to save water from the Ticha Dam. As part of the project, the young researchers measured the water indicators of the Poroyna River, which springs from the Shumen Plateau, and became familiar with the specific hydrological features of the region. The manager of Shumen Water and Sewerage Service Silvia Panayotova presented the alternatives for water supply. The children also studied the purification of drinking water, as well as the purification of wastewater, and conducted numerous experiments of their own. What they learned was presented in brochures, a booklet about the fountains in Shumen, thematic games, and video presentations, which were shown to all participants today.
The Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park thanks the young conservationists for their efforts, wishing them to remain committed to the cause of protecting natural resources.
