Earth Day, April 22, was celebrated in the Shumen Plateau Nature Park

Students from the 3rd Primary School "Dimitar Blagoev" celebrated Earth Day on April 22 at the Information Center of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park. Alex, Kristian, Ilaida and Joanna had prepared a presentation and a quiz with questions about environmental protection. Those who answered correctly received prizes. A vocal group performed songs related to nature and their homeland. The children called: "Let's rethink our attitude towards the Earth, it is our home!" and presented advice on what we can do in our daily lives to protect the planet, natural habitats and settlements from pollution. Experts from the Shumen Plateau Nature Park presented the plant and animal species inhabiting the protected area and ways to protect them. Participants in the initiative received brochures and materials with information about the Park.

The motto of the Earth Day initiatives on April 22 – “In nature, nothing exists alone” (Rachel Carson[1], 1962), emphasizes that all living things have irreplaceable value and that each species has a unique role in the complex web of life. This year’s Earth Day draws the attention of the global community to the rates of extinction of wild animal and plant species that can still be slowed down and the populations of many declining and endangered species can still be restored.
