Volunteers transformed the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve with significant initiatives

Significant volunteer initiatives were implemented on the territory of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park this year. Today, December 5, is Volunteer Day. The Park Directorate expresses its gratitude to all those who dedicated their efforts to the transformation and maintenance of the protected area.

In February, during the celebration of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve, the campaign for the revival of the "Lion" area was announced. The initiative is from Shumen Television, the "Madarsko Konnik" Scout Club and the Tourist Association in the city. Thanks to the hundreds of volunteers, "Lion" has become a favorite place for recreation, with a restored fountain and shelter.

Volunteer cleanup and reforestation actions were also held on the occasion of 100 years since the proclamation of the forestry holiday - Forest Week.

In the spring, children from four Shumen schools – Secondary School “P. Volov”, Secondary School “Dr. P. Beron”, Secondary School “Dimitar Blagoev” and Secondary School “Enyo Markovski” collected waste in the area of the Old Town and the Shumen Fortress. The employees of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve rewarded them with a visit to the Biserna Cave. Fifth-graders from Secondary School “Dr. P. Beron” volunteered to participate in the campaign “Let’s Clean Bulgaria Together”.

„"New life for the benches in the "Kyoskovete" park" is one of the most significant initiatives that were implemented during the year. With a modern vision, floral motifs, messages for a healthy life and quotes from films, Shumen students transformed the benches in the park. The action was implemented with the assistance of the Shumen Municipality, the Shumensko Plateau Nature Reserve and the Podobiri Foundation, with the participation of graduates of the "P. Volov" Secondary School, "Sava Dobroplodni" Secondary School, "Exarch Yosif Bulgaski" Secondary School, the Central Committee of the People's Democratic Party of Bulgaria, as well as citizens and families. Volunteers from Latvia also participated.

Two fountains have also received a new look thanks to volunteer work. The "Mirror Fountain" is now a delight for tourists and citizens, while the Association of Parks in Bulgaria and the "Madarski Konnik" Scout Club have improved the area around the "Mermaid" cave.

The Directorate team supports all initiatives related to improving the condition of the Nature Park and always contributes to good causes. Thank you, dear volunteers! Always be responsible towards nature!
