And in 2021, volunteers took care of the Shumen plateau

In 2021, volunteers and patrons of routes and facilities devoted their time and effort to taking care of nature and park infrastructure. The year began with one of the most massive actions to reforest the burned forest near the Divdyadovo district, with the participation of over 400 people. The Scouts of Shumen cleaned the area of “Khan Krumovi Porti”, of which they are patrons, and removed overgrown vegetation to reveal the wonderful view from the area. The “Ilchov Bair” Cycling Club cleared various trails during the summer, and is currently working on restoring a long-forgotten route in the less frequently visited part of the Park. A restored recreation area with benches and tables near the former Prophylacticum delights visitors thanks to the volunteer work of Georgi Ivanov and his colleagues from the Center for Special Educational Needs in Shumen. The highest point in the Park - Tarnov Tabia, is now marked with signs and accessible thanks to the Rotary Club of Shumen, who are patrons of the area.

Children and students are also among the active volunteers. Third-graders from the Panayot Volov Secondary School put up new signs in the Forest School, calling in a fun way for nature conservation. Their classmates from the Green Patrols Club planted trees that they had grown themselves after the lessons conducted by the experts of the Park and the Social Development Foundation. And the “Sun” children’s corner shone again with the work of teachers and children from the “Konche Vihrogonche” preschool. The facilities were repainted and refreshed. There are also many volunteers who, without advertising themselves, clean up waste and cut branches from the forest paths every day.

On Volunteer Day - December 5, the Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve thanks everyone who, with their hard work and enthusiasm, takes care of nature and the facilities in the Park!
