We are maintaining the regime for visiting the "Biserna" cave even after the natural phenomenon became part of the 100 National Tourist Sites, said Eng. Kiril Valchev, director of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve, during a briefing on the occasion of the cave's inclusion in the national tourist network.
Present were Deputy Mayor of Shumen Municipality Daniela Ruseva, the initiators - Municipal Councilor Vladimir Yolov, Architect Valery Kolev - Chairman of the Association "United for Shumen", Angel Filipov - Chairman of the Tourist Association "Madarski Konnik", as well as all partners who supported the inclusion.
The Biserna Cave will open to tourists on April 1, 2026, maintaining the regime of advance registration and fixed entry times. "The status of the cave, which is a habitat for 14 species of bats, is not changed in any way," emphasized Eng. Valchev. According to him, the directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve is making constant efforts to protect and sustainably manage natural resources, with Biserna occupying a special place among them. The regime of visiting the cave - in spring and autumn, is real an example of conservation tourism.
„"We already have a new tourism model in Shumen. A natural one is added to the historical and cultural sites, and thus we are expanding the tourist image of Shumen," said municipal councilor Vladimir Yolov. He presented ideas on how all places in the Shumen region, which are included in the 100 National Tourist Sites, can be promoted through common advertising materials, virtual tour glasses, films, common "family tickets" and events for students and children.
According to Angel Filipov, chairman of the Madarski Konnik Tourist Board, Biserna Cave becomes part of the national sites at an important moment when there is a discussion about limiting new arrivals. Filipov emphasized that in recent years, interest in these places has grown significantly.
Deputy Mayor Daniela Ruseva announced that the road to the cave, which can be reached by car, will be repaired. It is planned to create a parking lot that will comply with the requirements of the protected area and buses will be able to park there.
The team of the Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Natural Park thanks everyone who makes efforts to make the park and the region a preferred destination for domestic and foreign tourists.
