Shumen children learned how to love the forest

Over 40 children from the 3rd Primary School "Dimitar Blagoev" celebrated the International Day of Forests on March 21 in a fun way. In the nature of the Shumen Plateau, experts from the Regional Forestry Department and the Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park answered the students' questions about the forest and its inhabitants. "Forests can exist without people, but people cannot exist without forests. Forests help a lot in purifying the air, soil, and are used in construction and industry," explained Eng. Anton Donchev to the children. The experts from the Nature Park Directorate asked the children if they knew how to protect forests and why they are so important. The students explained that fires should not be lit in prohibited places, waste should not be thrown away, flowers and herbs should not be picked, and plants and animals should not be destroyed. In front of the Park's summer information center, the children participated in fun games to recognize different animal species, learned the basic rules for protecting forests. Competitions were held. March 21 was declared the International Day of Forests by the United Nations in 2012. On this day, a number of events are held both in Bulgaria and around the world to draw public attention to the protection of forests. This year, the campaign's motto is "Forests and Education - Learning to Love Forests".
