New activities for children dedicated to the lesser spotted eagle

Over 100 children from Shumen participated in the first Forest Pedagogy lessons this summer organized by experts from the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve and the Forestry and Forestry Service. Today, the foresters visited the children from the Izvorche Nature Reserve in Shumen. The new lesson is related to the protection of the Lesser Spotted Eagle in Bulgaria, increasing its population and creating habitats suitable for this species. In July, the Forestry and Forestry Service published the book "Tales from the Nest", through which children can learn about the life of the Lesser Spotted Eagle in an accessible way, how it reproduces, what it eats, where it is found and how it migrates. Each page of the book has a prepared game, with the children taking on the role of the eaglets - building nests, learning to fly and looking for food. Each lesson lasts two hours, and the children must read the book themselves and apply the knowledge gained during the games.

In the coming months, children from Dobrich, Varna and Targovishte will also join the lesson about the lesser spotted eagle. Teachers from preschool groups, as well as first and second graders, can contact the forest educators from the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve and the Sofia Forestry and Wildlife Conservation Center, who will visit them to learn and have fun together with the little nature lovers.

The new lesson and the book "Tales from the Nest" are being implemented thanks to the Project "Measures for the Conservation of the Lesser Spotted Eagle and its Habitats in Bulgaria", which is part of the EU LIFE program. The project partners are the IAG, BSPB, SIDP and SEDP, and its goal is to create new habitats for the Lesser Spotted Eagle, to protect the species and to preserve the biodiversity of the forests in Bulgaria.
