Biserna Cave is welcoming tourists again

Biserna Cave will be open for visits from September 2, 2023.

Entry will only be possible by prior appointment on weekdays at the directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve at tel. 054/ 800 765. Working hours will be from Wednesday to Sunday inclusive, with Monday and Tuesday being the days off. On weekdays, entry times are 10 a.m., 11.30 a.m. and 1 p.m., and on holidays and weekends, groups will be accepted from 10 a.m., 11.30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.

The Biserna Cave can be reached on foot, as the forest road is not suitable for cars. Vehicles can be parked on the asphalt road before the turn for the villa of the Shumen Municipality. There are two walking routes - from the Borovets fountain via the marked route "Lesson on the Forest Path" and from the junction for the "Old Town" fortress on the road to the villa of the Shumen Municipality. There are signposts on all the indicated routes.

We remind you that the walk in the "Biserna" cave is about 800 meters long in one direction. The temperature is 10 degrees and therefore visitors need to have warm clothes. Due to the high humidity and the cave waters, it is recommended that tourists wear suitable closed shoes.

The cave has the status of a scientific research site and as such opens to tourists twice a year according to an established regime. It is consistent with the biological cycle of the bats that inhabit it and which are a protected species under the Biodiversity Act.
