A hike to the rock monastery above the village of Khan Krum is organized by the Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve. The initiative is on the occasion of May 28 - Parks Day in Bulgaria.

The hike will start at 10 am, and the meeting point is the Summer Information Center of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve, which is located in the parking lot next to the Founders of the Bulgarian State monument. The hike lasts about 3 hours, and Park employees will introduce those present to the history of the rock monasteries on the Shumen Plateau and will show interesting representatives of the plant world that can be found along the route. It is marked with white-green markings.

Those wishing to join should wear suitable hiking shoes. No prior registration is required, the hike is free.

According to historical records, the rocky ridges along the entire plateau were inhabited during the Middle Ages by hesychast monks, who carefully designed churches and cells, some of which were also painted.

The Directorate of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve republished a booklet last year that describes the rock monasteries and access to them.
