Birds in nature and birds in literature

How to help common birds winter and what do birds symbolize in literature? The two topics were combined in one lesson by experts from the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve and students from grade 8A of the Panayot Volov Secondary School in Shumen. The eighth-graders learned what is the most useful food for birds in the winter, which species are at risk and how to make feeders that do not pollute the environment. For the most common bird species, including tits, woodpeckers, sparrows, robins, jays and others, feeders were made from waste and eco-friendly materials. Millet and sunflower seeds were used, which must be raw and unsalted.

The eighth graders had prepared a presentation in which they presented what birds symbolize in literature and sacred books. The dove is a symbol of peace and love, the raven - of repentance, the eagle - of salvation. The students presented the experts with a specially made painting made of natural materials, related to the topic of the activity.

At the end of the lesson, dedicated to 43 years since the declaration of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park as a protected area, all the feeders were placed in appropriate places.
