The specific natural conditions of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve favor the development of a rich plant cover. Forests occupy 90% of the park's territory. Mixed deciduous forests predominate, in which common hornbeam, beech, hornbeam, maple, ash, linden and other tree species coexist. In botanical terms, the most important is the Moesian beech. It belongs to the root vegetation and is best preserved in the Bukaka reserve, which has an area of 62.6 hectares. Coniferous species are represented by black and white pine, green Douglas fir, common and silver spruce. Of the shrub species, the most common are rosehip, red hawthorn, common dogwood, hazel. The open areas in the park are a colorful mosaic of herbaceous plants and shrubs. Higher plants in the nature park are represented by 535 species, of which 64 have nature conservation status. There are 19 species of orchids, over 250 species of medicinal plants, representatives of rock and steppe plants. The presence of 49 species of lichens and 99 species of mosses has been identified.
