Bukaka Reserve
The Bukaka Reserve occupies an area of 64 hectares in the central part of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve. It is located at an altitude of 450 m above sea level. It was declared a protected area by Order No. 79/05.02.1980 of the Committee for the Protection of the Natural Environment. The Bukaka Reserve is a forest massif declared for the protection of the existing over a hundred-year-old beech forest composed of the Moesian beech species (Fagus sylvatica ssp. moesiaca). In its northern part, winter oak, common hornbeam, hornbeam, maple, sycamore and other tree species also grow. Among the shrubs, hazel, hawthorn, rosehip, blackberry, and bramble are found. The grass cover is represented by: Swiss snowdrop, yarrow, bluebell, buttercup anemone, maidenhair tree, Peter's cross, spring botrytis, etc. From the animal world, fox, badger, roe deer, wild boar, red deer, and several species of reptiles can be found.
All activities are prohibited in the reserve, except for:
1. his security;
2. visits for scientific purposes;
3. collection of seed material, wild plants and animals for scientific purposes or for their restoration in other places in quantities, methods and time excluding disturbances in ecosystems;
4. extinguishing fires and sanitary measures in forests damaged as a result of natural disasters and calamities.
