Students from the 4th year of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at the "Bishop Konstantin Preslavski" School of Environmental Studies conducted an external training course in the discipline "Ecological Monitoring" in the "Shumen Plateau" Nature Park. During the visit, they visited the "Biserna" cave and got acquainted with the underground wealth of the park. The idea of the lecturer, Dr. Pavlinka Marinova, is for the students to see how ecological monitoring is carried out in practice and to work in the field. Dr. Marinova is a herpetologist and, together with her team, has been conducting monitoring on the territory of the "Shumen Plateau" Nature Park for many years. As a result of these studies, a number of scientific articles have been published, dedicated to the ecology of amphibians and reptiles inhabiting the area.
The students' practical classes in the park will continue. Field work is planned on the thematic route "Karst under protection - a gift for generations.".
Trainings in the Biserna cave have become a common practice over the past two years. Forest educators conduct lessons about bats with groups of students, introducing children to the cave formations and the underground wealth of the Shumen plateau. A few days ago, such lessons were held with students from Varna, Targovishte and Shumen.
