The forest educators of the Shumen Plateau State Educational Service launched the Forest Week initiative at the „John Exarch Bulgarian“ Secondary School in Shumen. The desire of students and teachers at the school is for all primary school children to learn more about the forest and its protection. The lessons introduce the most common trees in Bulgaria and the forestry profession, as well as the tradition of celebrating Forest Week. The first lessons were with children from grades 3b and 2b. Each child now has a favorite tree that they can recognize among other trees. The children learned who the people who take care of the forests are and as a reward for their efforts they received a gift – a lexicon about trees in Bulgaria, provided by the Northeastern State Enterprise. The thematic lessons continue until the end of April.
