A project to protect forest habitats has been launched

Directorate of Shumen Plateau Nature Park begins implementation of project "Reducing biodiversity loss, protecting forest habitats and reducing illegal activities in forest areas". The project was developed by the Executive Forestry Agency under Intervention II.D.13 – Reducing biodiversity loss, protecting forest habitats and reducing illegal activities in forest areas by The Strategic Plan for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Areas for the period 2023-2027, according to the concluded support contract No. 27/D.13/01/005228-C01. .

The project will purchase specialized off-road vehicles and equipment for monitoring and combating illegal encroachment on forests and game resources, such as thermal imaging cameras, binoculars, camera traps and radio stations. Field equipment for extinguishing forest fires is also planned, including a firefighter's suit, fire-resistant boots and heat-resistant gloves.

The amount for the Shumen Plateau DPP is 75,147.36 euros including VAT, and the total budget of the project is 299,186.35 euros including VAT, a grant from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). The implementation must be completed within 24 months from the date of signing the administrative contract, starting from 30 March 2026.

The planned activities aim to improve the performance of the forestry sector, reduce illegal activities in forest areas and stop the loss of biodiversity through habitat protection.
